Cabbage Pie Recipe with Yeast Dough

Cabbage Pie

Cabbage pie is a simple, comforting pastry that combines soft, airy dough with a light, savory filling. It can be made in various shapes and sizes, either open-faced or fully enclosed, but in every form it remains a warm, home-style dish that is easy to prepare and pleasant to serve.

Ingredients

  • Yeast dough
  • 500 g fresh cabbage
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg yolk (for brushing)

Preparation

  1. Prepare the dough according to the “Yeast Dough” recipe.
  2. Finely chop the cabbage, season with salt and pepper, add the vegetable oil, and sauté until tender.
  3. Chop the eggs and mix them into the filling.
  4. Divide the dough into two uneven parts and roll each piece into thin sheets about 0.5 cm thick.
  5. Place the larger sheet on a greased baking tray and spread the filling evenly over it.
  6. Dot the filling with thin slices of butter so it melts during baking and enriches the flavor.
  7. Cover with the second sheet of dough and seal the edges carefully to prevent the filling from leaking.
  8. Prick the surface with a fork, brush with egg yolk, and decorate with small leaves or shapes made from dough.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes at 180–200°C.
  10. Brush the hot pie with butter and cover with a towel to soften the crust.
