Cabbage Pie Recipe with Yeast Dough
Cabbage Pie
Cabbage pie is a simple, comforting pastry that combines soft, airy dough with a light, savory filling. It can be made in various shapes and sizes, either open-faced or fully enclosed, but in every form it remains a warm, home-style dish that is easy to prepare and pleasant to serve.
Ingredients
- Yeast dough
- 500 g fresh cabbage
- 3 hard-boiled eggs
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
Preparation
- Prepare the dough according to the “Yeast Dough” recipe.
- Finely chop the cabbage, season with salt and pepper, add the vegetable oil, and sauté until tender.
- Chop the eggs and mix them into the filling.
- Divide the dough into two uneven parts and roll each piece into thin sheets about 0.5 cm thick.
- Place the larger sheet on a greased baking tray and spread the filling evenly over it.
- Dot the filling with thin slices of butter so it melts during baking and enriches the flavor.
- Cover with the second sheet of dough and seal the edges carefully to prevent the filling from leaking.
- Prick the surface with a fork, brush with egg yolk, and decorate with small leaves or shapes made from dough.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes at 180–200°C.
- Brush the hot pie with butter and cover with a towel to soften the crust.
